File this under “Things that bring me joy.”
My dad’s been dealing with some persistent ankle issues. It would be easy to bemoan what’s no longer possible. Instead, he was determined to play golf. We teed it up, and I suspected we’d make it a few holes.
After we finished the second hole and turned into a gale-force wind, I said, “One more?”
“Let’s keep going.”
That was his response after the first five holes, so I stopped asking.
We played nine holes and had so much fun. A documentary film crew (i.e., me and my iPhone) captured a few shots on video (see below). His advice for hitting drives over a creek? “Keep your head down.”
We should all be so lucky to experience such joy no matter our age, and we should all feel gratitude for what we’re able to do. It’s so much easier to persist and thrive when we approach life with a “get-to” instead of “have-to” mindset.
Here’s hoping you spend time on some things that bring you joy today, tomorrow and always. Oh, and keep your head down.
